Danny Zeimann and his All Stars
Bassist Danny Ziemann is no stranger to the world of Blues and Lindy Hop. While you may not recognize him by name, you have definitely heard him, either here in Rochester or festivals abroad. Danny continues to be a sideman for today’s most recognized musicians in the scene, most notably his long-standing association with bandleader Gordon Webster, having performed with him since age 22 and accompanied him on multiple tours of North America, Europe, and Asia. In addition to playing major Blues and Lindy festivals with Gordon, Danny has also performed with Solomon Douglas, Jonathon Stout, Mike Falty and the Defects, Jessy Carolina, Debbie Kendrick, and The Fried Bananas.
A 2012 graduate of the Eastman School of Music, Danny has a strong love for the history of this music. After being approached to form his own band as a leader, Danny took the initiative to reflect on his past experiences, culminating in the form of Danny Ziemann and His All Stars. With a successful year leading local Lindy Hops, including performances at Stompology and other events, Danny and his band continue to branch out and represent a wide range of genres, guaranteed to make you dance.
Joe Beard & The Blues Union
Joe Beard is a local favorite. Rochester dancers have been joyously practicing their floor craft at his packed monthly gig at Dinosaur Bar B Que for well over a decade. We are delighted to once again share his Jukin sounds with the Blues Dance Community.
Growing up in Ashland, Mississippi, Joe started singing at an early age, hearing Delta Blues Guitarist Nathan Beauregard play at his cousin's house. Beard often visited his family in Chicago, and quickly became enamored of the blues being played by musicians like Jimmy Reed, and Sonny Boy Williamson. He sat in with John Lee Hooker one night and received encouraging words from Hooker, and also later sat in with his idol, Muddy Waters. Later, having moved to Rochester's Corn Hill district, Beard befriended his neighbor, the legendary Son House.
Joe Beard has several albums, as well as doing studio and stage work with Buster Benton, Lafayette Leake, and Memphis Slim. Beard toured Europe in 1983, and has played at the famed BK Lounge, opening for Bobby Bland, Albert King, and others. More recently, Beard performed at President George H.W. Bush's inaugural gala.
Vocalist, guitarist, songwriter Genesee Johnny, is a native of Rochester, NY. His name comes from the river that runs through his home town, his sound through a devotion to the Blues.
As with many guitarists, Genesee Johnny was initially influenced by the great rock artists of the 60's, 70's and 80's. Starting off in a rock band his interest soon turned to songwriting, traditional Folk, Blue Grass and ultimately, the Blues. From first seeing the name SON HOUSE, in the liner notes to a Jimi Hendrix album, to today, as a member of the local blues community, Genesee Johnny is known for a booming voice and with his bottleneck slide on the resonator guitar he is helping to keep the blues and the music of Son House alive.
The album, NATIONAL GRID, recorded with his band, The River Rats, contains some of Johnny's original songs as well as covers of the SON HOUSE compositions, "Death Letter," and "Grinning in Your Face," and a cover of Muddy Waters "Can't Be Satisfied." A follow up album is to be released in 2017 and hopefully a short Mississippi Blues Trail Concert Tour will follow.
Enamored with the blues for as long as she can remember, Jody is drawn to the rawness, passion, soul and intensity of emotion. The sheer humanity of it, makes her feel alive! A veteran guest at exchanges and national events, Jody has a keen sense of play and likes to share her latest 'musical finds', with a not so hidden agenda of highlighting Canadian artists.
Whether she's playing some kicking' R&B, swinging' it old school style, funking out, "shouting' hallelujah!" to an inspiring Gospel set, or getting downright carnal, sweaty & intense blues session, she tries to create a flow and help shape the mood or tone. Lindyhop, Blues, WCS, Balboa, or whatever she'll spin for it and you know, its going be fun!

Hailing from Nashville, Kenneth had been a Hip-Hop DJ for many years, but felt right at home after experiencing blues dancing. He has spent the last few years traveling to major blues events, learning new techniques and improving as a dancer and teacher. He currently DJs in Nashville for his local blues scene and around the Southeast. Kenneth will usually have a big grin on his face when dancers are having a blast on the dance floor.
Many years ago Flouer fell in love with blues dancing, and ever since she has been fascinated with blues movement, history, and music. DJing has turned into a passion for her, the meditative process of discovering and organizing music & the thrill of watching the energy swell in a room of dancers are two of her very favorite things. Not only does she DJ regularly at events in her home town of New York City, but she has created musical experiences all over the world at National and local events. Thanks for listening - now get up and dance! http://FlouerDances.com
